Vivek Manohar Lal, Welder

Vivek has been a member of the BGCH family for most of his life. Today he is a valued member of the staff—serving as welder for the campus and caretaker/cook for the campus guesthouse—but he also grew up at the Home. He is continuing the family tradition, with his 3 children studying at BGCH’s school.

He was born into a Hindu family in October 1965 at Chhindawada in Madhyapradesh. His mother died giving birth to him and his twin brother, Prakash Manohar, and his father died in an accident several months after their birth. When the boys were 3 years old, they were taken to Mukti Mission in Kedgaon. His brother was adopted from the mission shortly thereafter and Vivek does not know where he is today.

In 1970, at the age of 5, Vivek came to BGCH and has lived here ever since. “Here I have received the love of a father and mother,” he says. “In my school life I came to know the love of the Living God and accepted Jesus as my personal savior.”

After finishing his studies at BGCH, he went for welding training at Jivan Vias Udyog Shala and returned to the Home to work as a welder. “I am so thankful to have the opportunity to serve the orphan children at BGCH, where I grew up,” he says.

In 1991, Vivek married Usha and they now have three children: a son, Suraj, who is in 6th grade, and twin girls, Priya and Priti in the 3rd grade.

His favorite Bible verse is James 1:27. “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
